Scarva 24 May 2015

The band played in Scarva today as part of the regular Sunday afternoon music in the bandstand.

The Conductor Stephen Murray borrowed a portable amplification system and announced the pieces which we think the crowd enjoyed, ( sometimes knowing the name of the piece is a help when listening ).

The Band opened with an Australian March Gundagai, some of the other pieces played were, Nearer my God to Thee, Haven’t met you Yet, Flugel solo The Meeting of the Waters, Blaze Away, Pirates of the Caribbean, Crazy little thing called love, Run, Be Still and Rivers of Babylon.

Next engagement 20 June in Lady Dixon Park, Belfast

The band made a return to the Brass in Concert after missing the previous year and while unsuccessful in the 4th Grade Competition and March, Rodney McCabe picked up the soloist prize with the flugel solo “The Meeting of the Waters”.

Congratulations to Maguiresbridge Silver for overall winner and also taking the best March Prize.

Festival of Brass – Queens University

Fantastic day (9 hours & 16 Bands) of Brass Band Entertainment in the Whitla Hall Queens University, great atmosphere, great performances and good result for Warrenpoint Silver.

Downshire Brass won the Championship Section and Best March and their youth band won the Best March and the most entertaining band in the youth section.

Warrenpoint were awarded second place from Dungannon who have won this section for the last four years but Rodney McCabe took the honours as best soloist with his rendition of Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez or Orange Juice as it is called in the film Brassed Off.

Our programme was March Blaze Away, Flugelhorn Solo Adagio fron Conceirto de Aranjuez, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Irish Tune from County Derry, and Crazy little thing called Love.

Ross Monument Rostrevor

Ross
200 years Commemoration.

The band will provide a concert at the Ross Monument, on the Warrenpoint to
Rostrevor Road, on Saturday evening 13 September 8pm to 9pm.

The monument, erected in 1826, celebrates Major General Robert Ross victory over the American forces in Bladensburg in 1814 and his entry into the capital, Washington. He is reputed to have burnt down all the public buildings including the presidential mansion, and to have eaten the president’s breakfast, he having left in a hurry.

Scarva Concert

It was a dry day today in Scarva, (one out of two not bad for season) and the concert was well received by a very appreciative audience. There were many encouraging comments on the standard of the playing and the repertoire chosen.

The band have now two concerts in September before the NIBA Contest in October.
